About Climate Great Southern.
Climate Great Southern has been developed by Stirlings to Coast Farmers under funding support from the Australian Governments Future Drought Fund project.
Climate Great Southern acts as your one-stop location for current weather conditions, soil moisture levels, pasture forecasting and climate resources in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
Stirlings to Coast Farmers (SCF) provides leading research, development and extension services to its members in the Great Southern region of Western Australia and provides information, advice and events that will help our members to increase productivity and profitability.
About our Climate Resilience Dashboard
Climate Great Southern aims to provide a centralised weather dashboard & climatic resource information service to enable farmers to make better business decisions and improve their farm’s resilience to a changing climate.
The project comprises of technology deployments (weather stations, remote rain-gauges and soil moisture probes) throughout the Great Southern region of Western Australia and integrating the data into a dashboard & resource support tool to maximise farmer usage and understanding.
By increasing the amount of weather and soil moisture data collected, we hope to:
-
-
-
- improve the accuracy of weather forecasting at a local level,
- better measure stored soil moisture levels to determine how risky it would be to grow a summer crop or cut/increase fertiliser applications late in the season, and
- better understand the effects of current climate conditions on pasture growth, enabling the ability to better manage stocking rates & pasture regrowth.

Future Drought Fund: Extension and Adoption of Drought Resilience Farming Practices Grants
Eighteen grants totalling $13 million will help farmers adopt proven practices and technologies that will make them more productive, resilient, and sustainable as conditions dry.
Successful projects will run over a 24-month activity period starting June 2023.
Future Drought Fund: Natural Resource Management Drought Resilience Program – Grants
The Future Drought Fund is providing funds to build the capacity and resilience of soils and agricultural landscapes to underpin farm productivity through times of drought.
The grants are for innovative NRM practices, systems and approaches. These will improve natural capital and contribute towards landscape-scale drought resilience.
